WORKSHOPS PRESS RELEASE Completion of thematic meetings for the development of cycling tourism in Serres

Amfipoli, Kerkini and Serres

In the framework of the cross-border project “Bike Cities Network for bikes, e-bikes, etc.” and acronym “BIKE CITIES”, the Center for Lifelong Learning PKM of the Regional Unit of Serres organized three thematic meetings in the prefecture of Serres, Amfipoli, Kerkini and Serres, with the aim of exchanging views on the benefits of bicycle tourism to local organizations and businesses in the cross-border region, which creates a great green growth opportunity for the blue economy on both sides of the border.

 In the long term, the project aims to improve living standards and employment opportunities by developing sustainable and responsible tourism potential of the cross-border region, through innovative and quality tourism products and through the extension of the tourist season.

The prestigious speakers of the workshops, Ms. Andreana Tragouda, Ph.D. Candidate in Brain Management, presented the Modern Touristic Alternative Forms of Tourism, while the President of the Bicycle Association “MACHITIS Bike riders of Serres”, Mr. Giorgos Theodoridis, analyzed the actions of the association, as well as the problems faced by cyclists in their daily rides. As part of the project, an application for mobile phones was also created, which was presented by the representative of the Tourism Department of the Municipality of Serres, Mr. Giorgos Arapakis. The lead partner, the Municipality of Serres, was represented by the transportation expert Ms. Fotini Mikiki, who spoke about the actions and future development plans. For the development of orienteering in Serres, an orienteering sport that uses specially designed and detailed maps, TEFAA Graduate Mr. Vassilis Hortomaris spoke.

The meetings were attended by hoteliers, local bodies, presidents of cycling and mountaineering clubs, bicycle dealers as well as young cyclists and more, who showed a keen interest in the ideas and views of the organizations that put forward the local-cross-border development project.
